What is a lanyard?
Lanyards are worn around the neck and used to carry and display ID. Lanyards are typically made from polyester at widths of 10-25mm, and are stitched at each end to make a wearable 'neck strap'. At the end of the lanyard, a form of ID (often a badge or laminate) is held by a clip. For safety, our lanyards all come with the option to add a breakaway, allowing the lanyards to come away freely if they get caught.
Lanyards are most commonly used to display ID at events including festivals and conferences, but are also used privately for carrying keychains, keys and cameras.
Lanyard origin and common misspellings
The word lanyard originates from 'Lanyer', a Middle English word meaning 'a short length of rope or line for securing something'. And, while the meaning has stayed the same, believe it or not, the word 'Lanyard' is frequently misspelled. Here are the common misspellings: Landyards, Laynards, Laniards, Lanyerds and our personal favourite... Lanards
