Greener Wristbands, the new sustainability initiative from More Bins and ID&C has made its festival debut this summer at Wood Festival in Oxfordshire.
Held between 15-17 May in Braziers Park, the independent festival was host to the first ever Greener Wristbands Up-cycling Workshop.
The workshop, which was organised by event waste and sustainability company More Bins, featured a series of re-use activities that saw used festival wristbands and lanyards be recycled into useful items such as purses, wallets, bags and even signage.
Chris Nowell of More Bins commented, "The first workshop was a complete success. It was really interesting to see the kind of things some of the visitors were making from the used festival products."
"We have set designs for things like wallets and bags but it was great to see people get creative with other ideas. One person even made their own flag from old fabric wristbands."
The Greener Wristbands initiative was launched following requests from clients of ID&C and More Bins, who were looking for ways to recycle and re-use their old security products, that could otherwise end up in landfill.
ID&C director Matt Wilkey said "Teaming up with More Bins has enabled us to make an important step in the right direction when it comes to the sustainability of our products."
"Festivals and other large scale events are under increased pressure to prove their sustainability credentials and It's only right that suppliers do what they can to support them and the rest of the industry."
How the Greener Wristbands initiative works
Leading UK wristband suppliers ID&C offers its clients the opportunity to return any un-used or left-over fabric wristbands and lanyards, which the company then sorts and sends on to More Bins.
More Bins, who also work as waste management specialists at many UK events, then put the products into a recycling and up-cycling programme, culminating in the Greener Wristbands festival workshop.
