If you’re intrigued by the title, you’re right to be. So bear with me when I say the words “speed dating” and not in that awkward way that instantly springs to mind. Instead, think of a more high tech scene, where you can cut the awkward small talk and instantly connect over your common interests. Yes, it’s possible and it’s all down to RFID.
On a traditional speed date you get 3-4 minutes to sell yourself and get to know the other person. That’s mad… and probably less time than you spent at the packed bar ordering the glass of ‘Dutch courage’ necessary to register in the first place. Then when you consider there are usually only 12-15 dates ahead of you, you start to realise the probability of hitting things off is looking fairly slim.
Well, what if you already knew you had things in common with your dates? Then you wouldn’t need to spend 3 minutes working it out and wasting time or worrying that your mind will go blank the moment someone dishy stares you in the eyes.
The logistics of using RFID for Speed Dating
So how would it work? On registration the organisers would ask you to fill in a short interests survey. Then you would check or ‘beep’ in with your Branded RFID Wristband as you take a seat with your date. Once you’re comfortably seated and have got the (possibly) awkward introduction out of the way your matched interests and dislikes would pop up, literally starting the conversation for you; giving you a glorious full 4 minutes to wow your dish with your fantastic personality and beautiful smile.
What if we don’t have anything in common? Well that’s unlikely; there will almost definitely be a mutual dislike to discuss. But, if things really are starting to dry up you could take the opportunity to make your excuses and pop to the bar to make the most of the cashless payment feature offered by your all-purpose wristband; there’s always a silver lining.
After each date you can then digitally register how it went, if the positive feelings are mutual contact details are automatically emailed/ text to you so can continue chatting. If it didn’t work out and you made the sensible decision to opt into the associated dating website, you will be sent an automated email with links to other possible matches that didn’t attend that evening… amazing!
It doesn’t end there, there is also the opportunity for the organisers of the event to use any data they collect to support you further; notifying members how many other matches have been confirmed for the next event. Allowing you to arrive confident there won’t be any 3 minute silences.
I’ve done some research and for now I’m not aware of anyone using RFID technology for speed dating, so it looks like you may have to bear with the older methods for a little while longer. Fingers crossed you’ll meet the partner of your dreams. If not, there's always Tinder.
